Burren Flowers - Spring Gentian
Botanical : Gentiana Verna
As Gaeilge : Ceadharlach Bealtaine

The beautiful little Spring Gentian flowers in the Burren between April and June. The Spring Gentian is native to Ireland. It's an erect perennial and grows to 6cm. The flowers of the Spring Gentian have 5 petals and are an incredible deep blue in colour with a white centre. White and pale blue variants occasionally have been seen. The Spring Gentian can be found in the Burren in open limestone grassland, wherever the vegetation is kept low by grazing.
Burren Flowers Greeting Cards - Spring Gentian
The Spring Gentian is the emblem of the Burren and one of the most beautiful flowers I've seen. I remember my first year taking regular trips back to photograph the flowers in the Burren. I'd just missed the Spring Gentians, which was very disappointing. However, I made up for it the following year. For Greeting Card pack mbf009 I photographed this patch of Spring Gentians at Poll Salach, near Fanore.
